There has been a change of opponent for Thai sensation Rodtang for his April 7th bout. Originally scheduled to face Jacob Smith, Rodtang will now face Australian Daniel Williams.
Smith’s wait for a ONE championship bout continues, having had several bouts now cancelled, including a fight with Superlek over a year ago. Smith’s cancellation is due to travel restrictions in the UK, with Singapore banning travel into the country from the UK due to covid restrictions. It is unknown yet when these restrictions may lift, or what the effects may be for other upcoming fights including British athletes Liam Harrison and Jonathan Haggerty.
Rodtang faces a game opponent in Williams, who has just under 2 weeks to prepare for the clash. Williams is not just a Muay Thai fighter, but an MMA fighter as well. In this match-up it will be interesting to see if his MMA stand-up can pose a different problem for the flyweight champion. Rodtang will likely be eyeing up either a potential title defence in the near future after this bout, or perhaps transition back across to Kickboxing to face the winner of the inevitable rematch between Superlek and Ilias Ennahachi.
